SC/ST CELL

Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) have been identified as the two most backward groups of Indian Society. They include all the castes, races or tribes, which have been socially, economically and educationally backward. The cell has been established to support and to bring students from such communities in the main stream. It also undertakes the activities to develop awareness among the SC/ST students especially from the rural areas about the role of VSM College in higher education avenues. The main aim of the Cell is to monitor the guidelines issued by the MHRD, the University Grants Commission and by the government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time.

To fulfil the prescribed UGC norms, the SC/ST Cell was constituted in 2016 at VSM College as a means for caring SC/ST students, teaching and administrative staffs’ amenities. The members of the staff in the cell are actively engaged in co-ordinating and solving the problems in matters of admissions and resources utilization in the college.

Vision

To be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to the changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centred and ecologically sustainable society that promotes and protects the dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all, with special emphasis on marginalised and vulnerable groups.

Mission

In pursuance of its vision, VSM College organizes teaching programmes to facilitate the development of competent and committed professionals for practice, research and teaching; and reaches out to the larger community through extension, at the local, regional levels.

Objectives

To implement, monitor continuously and evaluate the reservation policy in the College and plan measures for ensuring effective implementation of the policy and programmers of the Government of India.

To take such follow up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down for the purpose by the Government of India, MHRD and the UGC.

To ensure provisions of an environment where all such students feel safe and secure.

Analyse information on admissions, examination results training and employment of SC/ST students and to prepare reports for onward transmission to MHRD/UGC/Affiliating Universities etc.

Functions

The Committee meets at least two times in a year. The Committee functions under the Chairmanship of the Principal

Committee often meets the students and faculties belong to SC/ST communities, to understand their problem and take necessary action and/or render them necessary advice/help to resolve the matter.

Creating awareness among the SC/ST students regarding the various Government and Non-Government scholarship schemes.

Counselling the students to help them overcome inferiority complex related to interaction with fellow students and personal grooming, etc.

The Cell ensures the effective implementation of the reservation policies in the college admissions to students in various courses of studies.

The cell aims at providing educational opportunities to those, who are economically and socially deprived, in the higher education institution.

They are also encouraged to enroll for career orientation programs, which would equip them with the necessary skills to choose a career option.

The SC/ST Cell exclusively looks after the work related to SC/STs matters and no other work is assigned to the Cell.

Grievance Redressal

The SC/ST students and Employees can approach the Convenor of the Cell for redressal of any of their grievance(s) regarding academic, administrative or social problems. The Convenor often meets the concerned students and staff, to understand their problem and takes necessary action and/or renders them necessary advice/help to resolve the matter.

Procedure to file a complaint

A written complaint may be submitted to the Convenor, SC/ST Cell. Any student and employee (including contractual, casual and temporary) of VSM College can approach the Cell.

Drop Box

A Drop Box is available in SC/ST Cell, any student/employee belonging to SC/ST may drop his/her complaint if any.
